Introduction
RAP music is the most powerful music that can influence many young people in the world. In America Rap music dominated by black people and this music become the one of their identity. For the first time RAP music looked with of lower rank music, because RAP is the black people music or slave music, but now RAP can develop so fast and become the high class music of the world.
We know about many rappers in America. For example Jay Z, Chris brown, etc. they come from the new RAP in America, but we cannot forget the root of RAP. Before their, we have another rapper that come from old RAP and they are that started RAP music in America. We have Russell Simmons as the god father of RAP. Russell Simmons says “RAP music is black own music, in 70s RAP develop so fast because RAP can be explain the origin of black people”
This music can be the music of changes. So RAP use for protest to government too. Black people use RAP for get government attention. Because black people always looked by the second civil of America. RAP teaches about critic and learns to accept critic. RAP music can influence many people for always has spirit too, because with spirit of life, life will be easier, but RAP can be bad influence too. Why RAP can be bad influence in life? I will explain that in my analysis.
Why I analysis RAP music because I love RAP music and I want split up to many people about RAP. So many people will be known about RAP deeper.
That I will say before in this essay I will explain about RAP music as the identity of black people, the symbol of RAP music, and the influence RAP music in American people.
The Identity, Symbol, and Influence RAP Music for American black people
RAP is identity of black people, why? Because the root of RAP it’s from Africa, especially Black people. “Blacks have developed an oppositional cultural identity, where blacks because of their internalization of discrimination developed their own culture. In his perspective Black Americans exhibit this oppositional culture in music (rap, hip-hop, jazz), through clothes (baggy, lose fitting) and even speech (Ebonics).”
Between from the black people, RAP has identified by government to identity of black people. Governments fill up that statement with ideology. Many American understand this ideology and think RAP is the black people music or the lowest music. The governments in this case use ISA (Ideological State Apparatuses) theory by Louis Althusser. “Ideology is a structure” based on that statement if we need someone to follow our mind we must fill up our statement or instruction with ideology. Governments use that theory to form public opinion indirectly. So the opinion about RAP music is the black people music or lowest music composed by government self. Government in this case use media for form this issue, because they not want many people know Racism in America still happen, America people more sensitively about the issue of racism. So they use the smooth ways. They use “the communications ISA (press, radio and television, etc.)” For influence many white American. Media is the most powerful tools to make a people obey the rule of government. Ideologies originate from mind of person and from deep down of the person so it can enter to the mind of the person very fast and the ideology can make a person obey the rule. Many white American people believe this issue it’s true and they obey the racism indirectly. So at the first time, RAP music always looked by lowest music and black people music. Government has successful to form that public opinion.
In RAP music we will found any symbol, for example “BLING-BLING”. RAP and the word “BLING-BLING” cannot be separated, because that we know, at this time many Rapper in the world use that world to express RAP music is the music for rich people. Rapper use many gold or diamond necklace and ring in every their performance to express the word “BLING-BLING”. Why they are doing that? Before that I will explain the history of RAP music. Based on the Kwaku Person-Lynn, Ph.D. (June 29, 2001) RAP music comes from Bronx at 1970s. RAP always relate with black young people life too. In 1970s introduce with Hip Hop music. RAP become a little part in Hip Hop song “Wake Up, Niggers”
After that RAP music use for to raise hot issues in society, especially issues about a condition or racism to black people. Many black people use RAP music to inform their condition in America. They are always looked with a second civil in America, Black people American life in poor condition. RAP use for protest to government for injustice too.
Based on the history of RAP, RAP always relate with poor and black people. So many rapper want change that image. Rapper want show to the world, black people now more prosper than last condition. They use “Bling-bling array” in RAP music as a symbol of prosper. Previously black people come to America as a slave. So with RAP they can more look prosper than before they come to America.
I have one funny example too about black rapper and bling-bling with white rapper. In this case is Eminem. We know many of black rapper use blink-blink for symbolize black people condition in prosper condition. But Eminem doesn’t use blink-blink symbol, because Eminem want make differences with another rapper. Eminem face prosperity of black rapper with simplicity of white people. But Eminem still use RAP as the protest media.
“Rappers and hip-hop music have been getting a bad rap. This music is no different from the many other forms of expression used by Blacks of a different generation. The blues, jazz or even spirituals reflect the concerns of Black people as a whole. To devaluate this form of expression is to miss the point, the point being our youth's way of telling us the kinds of things that amuse and anger, and the experiences they go through in today’s world. To ignore these feelings would be to deny their very existence” .
Because of the reason in RAP music always has much immoral word, which can influence many younger. Sometime, RAP music has a bad influence for a listener of this music. So I will tell about the influence RAP music to young people.
First, RAP music can make many younger sick or in other sentence RAP does not healthy for life. Why? Because many rappers relate this music with drugs, for example marijuana, alcohol, heroin, etc. It can pattern of rapper life does not healthy. RAP has health-risk too, because RAP identical with fight, gun and knife. So it’s very dangers for the youngster.
Second, RAP music has bad influence in younger psychological too, because RAP identical with free sex. “The researchers found that girls who had watched rap videos for more than an hour a day were the most likely to have started sex early. They had had multiple sexual partners two times more often than the ones who watched considerably less.”
RAP music relate with drugs and free sex because in many RAP music video show glamorous with drugs and freedom with free sex. With that reason many younger will follow their idol. If they not follow their idol they think it’s not cool and they will look difference from another youngster. So many youngsters doing what their idol do.
CONCLUSION
RAP music is the most powerful music from the black people. This music has a black people spirit of life. This music develops so fast together with the existence of black people in America. RAP music can explain the origin of black people and their venture to get admission from the government, not become the second civil but become the first civil in America.
For the first time, RAP music can be identity of black people but the identity is very bad. RAP is the poor black people identity and RAP is the lowest music in America, for this case government participate have a role to form this identity and continue the racism in a smooth ways, but now that opinion start to disappear together with the existence of black people that more established than before.
RAP music now has relation with BLING-BLING symbol or in another word is glamorous. Many Rappers in America use diamond or gold for support the symbol in their appearance. The symbol shows the prosperity of black people.
Together with develop RAP music, influence rap music increasingly worse. RAP music has relation with drugs, fight, and free sex. It can be bad influence for many younger in America.
But the reverse side of that RAP music still becomes the powerful music of the world especially in America. RAP music still becomes the best media for protest or critic something. So during inequity in the world still happen, RAP music will develop and exist in deep down of many people heart of the world.
